Thanking my Secret Idols
Thanking my Secret Idols
Have you ever thanked the people who've had a big contribution to your life? These people might be I've listed the people who've had a major influence to my character and to what I am now.
Phoebe Joyce P. Belmonte
My Grade 6 best friend in Sunny Hill. I was kinda rude in Gr.5 because I left my "Ski" barkada (where all our names had skis-Domski, Nanski, Danski, Lenski...& did all kaartehan & girly stuff) because I was having more fun w/ Pheebs and Ralph. She likes to write and would often update us on the story script she's making in which we were part of the cast. She once told me she wants to be a writer someday. Pheebs also loves to bring her big notebook of handwritten lyrics. Aiza, Rappy, Feebs, Marj and I would go to a spot perpendicular to our classrooms and sing until the bell rang. She was also my roommate when we had our retreat in Sacred Heart Novaliches. I was an open book to her because she was everyone's number one adviser. We did "kababawan" and "kalokohan" things that time and she made me come out of my shell. I guess I owe those last two years of my happy Sunny Hill life to her and not to JC. When I went to highschool in DPS, I also began writing my own literature but never had the chance to tell my stories and poems to her. Feebs also let me realize that your hair is indeed your crowning beauty (glory)! I can still remember the surprised reaction of the boys on the first day of classes. She had her hair cut shagged and left the ponytail habit kept in her Lola's baul. Shockingly, she had several suitors the next week! She made a huge contribution in my life and whenever I think of her, I would sometimes feel "panghihinayang" that our friendship never lasted that long. And all we can do now is message ourselves in Friendster.
Judy Ann Santos
Yes, the Juday I'm talking here is the major showbiz celebrity. Eversince I became a chubby and long haired girl, some of the boys would tease me "Juday". I was, ofcourse, offended but I never imagined that I could compare my lovelife to her. Isipin nyo nlng kung bakit. Hahaha...Anyway, when Juday suddenly had her hair layered below her ears, I began to had my hair cut the same too! Being a round-faced girl, I always consulted her hairstyle look. Sounds jologs, but I kept thinking I look like Juday so why not follow her hair, right?
Agnes A. Africa
The triple A. The perfectionist. The Ms.Causeway Resto - Hao Fan Pancit lady. She's my former boss in IBM Phils. or so-called as our ultimate Manager, our last and final emergency call person for help. With Ms.Ags, everything is possible. If our documents stuck up in a dept. and when we're tired of calling and sending emails of follow ups, Solution: call Ms.A & she'll surely dial the local no. at once and the person who receives the call will surely regret of slowing things up. I think I was able to get my straight-forwardness from her. When it comes to work, she's attentive to the efficiency of the procedure applied and ofcourse, she's also attentive to detail about the personal lives of every IBMer. I admire her on how she's able to provide good judgment and assess every alternative option before making her final decisions.
At 4-5pm, expect her to call the house and get a detailed report from her children about their day in school and assignments. Who wouldn't forget the baby talk session at 6pm? She telecons everyone in LS and patches in the voice of her 2 yr. old daughter Alicia. With Ms.A as a Manager, I surely got the good and bad tastes of the IBMP life. When I was still an intern, I got my first reprimand from her and really felt my body shiver from toe up to the ear. I remember on my first few months when she advised me on my lovelife and how God will be able to assist me in deciding on the right man. Ms.A is indeed my long lost mother. Since I've been away from my mother for almost 13 years, the presence of Ms.A at my left (literally, she's an arm away from me & my other supervisor is stationed at my right, what a hell it was!) assured me that I can come to her as if I'm her daughter. Maybe my expectations from her were way too high, my longing for a motherly comfort was not something I should expect from her after a long tiring day at LS. Then I remembered, a Manager will always draw a line between her and her subordinates. With that principle, I have applied her management style to my interns.
Cathy "CJ" Jocano
Ever met someone who is just so perfect? Well, let's place the camera in the spot of CJ Jocano and expect the boys go gaga (or gago...hahaha) over her. Asides from being a descendant of a Jocano person in our History book, my ka-COF in Highschool (Circle of Friends, corny ng barkada name namin noh, thanks to James!) and constant classmate in the star section for three years, she's our prom Ms.Junior & Ms.Senior, hostess in school programs, counselor in our freshman year, Student Org President in our Sophie yr., muse in every sportsfest, muse of FEU in the UAAP, Student Council President of the FEU School of Nursing and other positions in diff. school organizations that are TOO MANY to mention.
She's a beautiful mestiza, slim(ahemm...she had her times), smart, a dedicated servant of the Lord (she teaches Sunday school to kids & a cell leader), a helpful daughter and a very nice person but knows how to fight back and be mataray in a very elegant way. She's also very approachable and the batch's no.1 adviser. She acts(Belle of Beauty & the Beast) and directs(our junior yr. West Side Story play); sings like Lea Salonga and can also groove (cheering squad for 2yrs). The only thing that I thought she's lacking is height. But I cannot say she's small because we're of the same height (5'1"). Hehe...But who cares about girls being 5'1" right? She had hearthrob boyrfriends, though they're the bad boy kind of type. (As observed, I think she always end up with bad boys for her to tame them.)
When I was still in Sunny Hill (Gr.3-6), I already felt the popularity of CJ. I have not known her then but always have heard stories about her from my classmates and especially from her admirers like from Chad and Martin, who claims that I'm his bestfriend (peace Martin peace, Ralph's my best guyfriend that time you're the 2nd). I just found out that she was a former Sunny Hillian and just transferred to Diliman on our 3rd grade. Anyway, there are too many things that I can compliment about my friend. I'm just so amazed on how she can balance her academics, social and spiritual life. Her faith in the Almighty is unfaltering. She had her hard times and yet she remains a passionate servant of the Lord. When we were in HS, I never knew anyone who disliked CJ. But during college, several students attacked her with negative remarks which I think is the result of their enviousness for all the achievements and attention she receives. Like what they said, "ang hirap nga naman maging maganda... at magaling pa! at matalino at mabait..etc!". I'm trying to achieve her level of spiritual maturity and great leadership ability. If ever I could swap a life with someone, it would definitely be in CJ's shoes!
P.S. CJ, Eloi and I still love Cholo..cholo cholo for you!! though he never grew up! And that Jeff's the only Atenista jerk I've known! LOL...I wrote you here as one of my secret idols because you have not only inspired me to be a "Better Human" but you've also inspired many of our batchmates to excel in the field and still be faithful to HIM.
Shen Caijing of the Princess Hours
Thanks to her I'm motivated to wear fashionable clothes and instilled a realization that I should change my wardrobe. In a country which has people who are dedicated to wear T-shirt and maong jeans, most Filipinos are scared to ramp the streets in a different kind of look. Maybe, I should not only thank the Shen Caijing character, but also all the Koreans in the Koreanovelas I've been watching.
Madeleine Guico
I remember sitting and hearing an inspiring speech in the Freshman orientation. She was introduced as a Mktg. & Adtg. Magna Cum Laude graduate and was absorbed by IBM after she had her internship there. I said to myself, "I wanna be like her someday". And you know, after four years I did! So be really careful for what you wish for! I was surprised I got employed in the same dept. as hers and when she transferred to IBS, I was her predecessor. I got what I wished for four years ago except that I failed to be a Magna Cum Laude because of that 1.0 grade in GUI Programming.
Ms.Mads was my first supervisor at work. I admired how she was able to handle and supervise four OJTs very well. I copied her supervising style like for example throwing back the questions the OJTs are asking me. Or instead of directly giving your subordinate the solution to a problem, you'll have to require him to give a solution before you give yours. Almost all of my supervising styles are copied from her. She always reminds me to put alarms in my Lotus Notes calendar, file before they pile up, and write down all orders/instructions to the OJT so they won't miss doing them out. As to date, I've considered her to be the best supervisor I've had at work.
Mischa Barton
Okay, another celebrity. I just like how she dresses and with her look, I've convinced myself to go on a diet. And being skinny is not actually bad looking, the only case is you need to be tall to look beautifully thin.
=if there are other people I am idolizing..secretly, I'll just add them up in the future. For now, these people are all I could think of.
